Claudia Castillo, 30, of Colombia, has been given a new windpipe. Claudia Castillo had a new windpipe with tissue from her own stem cells so her body did not reject the new material. The results of this operation were published in The Lancet, an online medical journal.

Claudia Castillo, of Barcelona, Colombia, had tuberculosis for many years. Castillo’s left lung collapsed and she needed regular treatment to clear her airways.
