David Watson  has been sentenced on Friday, June 5. Watson was sentenced to 4 and 1/2 years in prison but he has to serve only 1 year in jail. Tommy Thomas, Christina Thomas’ father, said it was a great injustice.

David Gabriel Watson, aka Gabe Watson, of Birmingham, Alabama, was charged with killing his wife, Christina Thomas Watson (Tina Thomas). David Gabriel Watson drowned his bride during their honeymoon at the Great Barrier Reef, off Queensland, in Australia. Christina “Tina” Thomas Watson was nicknamed the drowned bride because she drowned 11 days after her wedding, on Oct. 22, 2003. David “Gabe” Gabriel Watson is charged with murder and Australia wants him extradited to face the charges in Australia.

The motive for killing the drowned bride was alleged to be her insurance policy. The bride and bridegroom traveled from their home in Hoover, Alabama, to Australia, for their honeymoon.

There were some arguments/ claims that David Watson could have been involved in the death of his drowned bride, Christina Tina Thomas. It is remembered that Watson is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

1. Another driver had a photo of Tina Thomas on the sea bed while David Watson was nowhere in sight. Watson claimed he decided to swim to the surface to get help instead of fetching Tina Thomas Watson up himself.
2. Another diver saw Tina Watson and was swimming towards her.
3. David Gabriel Gabe Watson was an experienced diver and was his drowned bride’s diving buddy.
4. David Watson told police Christina Thomas Watson panicked and sank away from him.
5. Australian police became suspicious of David Watson after he changed details in his account of the drowning.
