By Angie Anthony on November 12th, 2008

Christina Hijjawi, 37, a former firefighter of San Francisco, faces criminal charges after she duped officials into giving her a $140,000 workers’ compensation and disability package. Christina Hijjawi was not disabled as she participated in ultra-marathons and triathlons that took place from Sierra to Germany. There was a warrant out for the arrest of Christina Hijjawi. Hijjawi surrendered to the authorities.

Hijjiwa was charged with multiple felony counts of workers’ compensation and disability insurance fraud and attempted perjury. Hijjawi was released after she paid a $30,000 bail. Hijjawi has to appear in court on Dec. 3 to hear her formal charges.

Christina Hijjiwa’s lawyer, Christopher Shea, said his client was not admitting any culpability. Shea cautioned against pprejudice saying that there was a difference between competing in a triathlon and carrying a 150 pound hose to do firefighting.
