Chiquita Tate & Greg Harris: Husband Harris charged with Tate’s murder (photo)
By Clarencia Cynrae on February 20th, 2009Chiquita Tate, 34, was discovered dead in her office. Tate was a lawyer in Baton Rouge, La. Tate was found dead at 6 am on Friday, Feb 20. Tate occupied a private suite that was used as her office. The coroner will perform an autopsy before releasing details.
Chiquita Tate lived in Baker, Louisiana. Police think her husband, Greg Harris, killed Tate. Harris and Tate were married for 14 and a half months.
Greg Harris was arrested and charged with second degree murder and illegal use of a dangerous weapon. Harris, 37, was detained in custody, in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
Harris’ lawyer, Lewis Unglesby, said his client was innocent. Unglesby claimed there was nothing in his background. But police found an outstanding warrant for Harris’ arrest that started with an incident on Dec 22, 2007. Harris was accused of using force and violence against Tate. Harris pleaded not guilty on March 6, 2008.Harris was required to attend a pre-trial on May 8. When Harris failed to show up, a warrant of arrest was issued for contempt of court.
Tate married Harris two and a half weeks after the domestic violence incident. Their marriage licence was on Jan 10, 2008. Tate married Harris on Feb 8, 2008.
Neighbors and friends were unaware of any domestic problems Tate and Harris may have had. They thought Tate and Harris were the perfect couple. Police said Tate was planning to divorce Harris and she had leased her own apartment.
