Chastity Bono, daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, turned 40 years old on March 4. Ms Bono marked her milestone by starting her sex change. Ms Bono, a political and social activist, already has a nickname, Chaz. Chaz Bono’s spokesperson announced that during Chaz’s transition and sex change operations, he would not be doing any interviews.

Chastity Bono’s book, “Family Outing”, was published in 1998. Ms Bono tried to be a rock singer with her band Ceremony in 1990, but the gay community outed her as a lesbian.

Chastity said that initially, her Mom Cher refused to accept her confession that she was a lesbian or gay. Her Dad, Sonny Bono, accepted her until his conserved Republican politics clashed with his personal acceptance. Sonny then distanced himself from Chaz. Mr Bono died in Jan 1998.

Cher, 63, has one son, Elijah Blue Allman, 32. Cher was formerly married to Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. Their union produced Elijah Allman.
