Charles Smith, 48, was one of the 3 prisoners who escaped from a maximum security prison in Indiana. Smith was convicted and sentenced on a murder charge in 1999. Smith was sentenced 95 years for murder.

Smith had escaped from prison on Sunday, July 12. Smith was captured next day Monday, July 13, in Grand Beach, Michigan.

Smith and two others, Mark Booher, 46, and Lance Battreal, 45, escaped by walking underground through tunnels. Booher was sentenced to 65 years in 1999 for committing robbery and murder. Battreal was sentenced to 50 years in prison for his crimes for rape, confinement and stalking.
