Charles Gus Augusto: Augusto, 72, defeated 4 robbers
By Clarencia Cynrae on August 14th, 2009Charles “Gus” Augusto Jr, 72, was being robbed at gunpoint on Thursday, August 13. Augusto was at his workplace, which was dealing in commercial kitchen equipment, when four armed men bust in to attempt a robbery. Augusto took out his shotgun and knocked them out.
Two robbers were killed and the other two were wounded. Augusto said he did not wish to kill or wound the men but he felt he had no choice. The strangers had started assaulting a worker at his store. Augusto had fired 3 times at the robbers. The two wounded men were sent to hospital.
Augusto was probably a victim after a stakeout at his Harlem store. The suspects might have thought an elderly man would be easy prey. How Augusto has proved them wrong! Augusto, a private shopkeeper, was a tough guy as he returned to work on Friday, the day right after the robbery attempt.
Police in Harlem said Augusto did not have a permit for his shotgun. Law enforcement will not file charges against Augusto.
