I was on this cruise, the guy was the lead vocalist on the ship, very talented!.it was incredibly windy on the top decks at midnight, maybe up to 30-50 mile an hour gusts, everyone was partying and not paying attention to the winds,I turned to my daughter and said lets get off this deck before something bad happens,as we walked to our cabin,we heard the code bravo over the loud system, meaning someone went over board, people not with their family, or traveling partners were freaking out while they franticly searched for loved ones, while Carnival representatives were in the atrium, saying the overboard was just a rumor and to calm down.the much anticipated new years celebration was over before it started.
The man overboard was with other dance members of the entertainment staff and was backing up to take a picture, with his back to the railing, not realizing how close he was to the railing he backed into it, and toppled overboard, the decks with access to the railings should have been closed, the seas were rough, and the wind was incredibly strong. there are outside decks with steel walls with windows, that’s all that should have been open.

I was on the Carnival Sensation from Dec. 18th – 21st and I also remember this young man. He sang the lead in the Christmas show with the kids and introduced Santa Claus as he came down from the Balcony. He was definetely very talented, I remember thinking how beautifully he sang along with the young lady in the show. I was so sorry to hear about this story, such a young rising star gone too soon. I understand people go on cruises to have fun but safety should always be a first concern. Maybe ships should be built with higher railings and more protection from falling overboard than they currently are. One man overboard death is too much, but when there starts to be several each there, something needs to be done. This is so sad.
