Carlos Jose Gomes, 58, of Brazil, ran in the New York marathon on Sunday, Nov. 2. Carlos Jose Gomes completed his run and crossed the finish line at about 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon. Gomes complained about feeling ill. An ambulance arrived to send Gomes to a hospital in Manhattan. Carlos Jose Gomes died in hospital.

The cause of death of Carlos Jose Gomes was not known. Two other runners in the NYC Marathon became ill during the race and they were hospitalized.
