Even at the eleventh hour when she was tied and bound by the Joker’s accomplices. Rachel Dawes was on the verge of admitting her love for Harvey Dent when he was rescued away from his forced imprisonment and fiery prison. Rachel Dawes died when her trap was triggered by the Joker.

Rachel Dawes wrote an open note to Bruce Wayne. In it, Rachel Dawes confessed her love for Harvey Dent and said that she agreed to stand by his (Bruce Wayne) side as a friend, not lover.

Bruce Wayne’s butler and assistant, Alfred Pennyworth, was entrusted by Rachel Dawes to hand her letter to Wayne when the time was right. Alfred Pennyworth opened the note and after reading its contents, he knew that it would destroy Bruce Wayne so he burnt the letter. Alfred Pennyworth let Bruce Wayne believe that Rachel Dawes loved him.
