Brian Tribble was invited to share his relationship with Bias in the documentary called “Without Bias”. This film is a part of ESPN’s celebration of its 30th anniversary as a sports network. ESPN will be airing 30 programs to celebrate its 30 years in TV. It is their “30 for 30″ project to highlight ESPN’s 30 years.
The 30 years covered will be from 1979 to 2009.
What happened to Len Bias, the promising basketball player? Why is the world left without Bias? Bias’ cause of death was due to a heart attack induced by cocaine.
Tribble has commented that Bias’ death was a tragedy that could have happened to anyone. He was careful in his observation not to lay the blame on anyone. Tribble has been blamed for playing a part in Bias’ death as he allegedly supplied the crack.
Len Bias was just drafted into the Boston Celtics team on June 17 when he lost his life on June 19. Brian Tribble was with Bias on the night he died. Tribble did not go public with his friendship with Bias.
James Stanley Bias III, also known as Jay Bias, was fatally shot following a dispute. Jay Bias was 20 years old on Dec 5, 1990, when he died. Jay Bias was in a vehicle when gunmen fired into the car.
Bias took two bullets in his back and died. Jay was buried next to his brother Len. Bias never had his chance to play basketball as a professional.
Jay and Len Bias’ parents, Lonise Bias and James Bias, became activists to campaign against drug use and gun violence.
