Brian Philcox, 53, of UK, devised a homemade bomb to kill his wife and mother of his 2 children. Philcox planned four deaths in June 2008. Philcox killed his kids and planned to kill 2 more people.
Philcox used an envelope to glue to his kitchen table and bobby trapped this to explode when opened. Philcox had drugged his daughter Amy, 7, and son, Owen, 3, with chloroform. Then Philcox and his kids sat in his stationery car that had carbon monoxide fumes channeled inside via a pipe. Philcox and his kids died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Philcox’s wife, Evelyn McAuliffe, 38, was divorcing Philcox. On June 13, Philcox took his children away on a visit during his access day. Philcox later called McAuliffe to ask her to enter his home.
McAuliffe sent her sister Geraldine Craven to look inside. Craven found the envelope but it failed to detonate. Police later found the elaborate, homemade, concealed bomb.
Philcox also mailed a parcel to Ryan McAuliffe, his stepson. It contained a bomb which failed to explode. Evelyn McAuliffe said Philox bullied Ryan and threatened to kill him.
