Brenda Torres, a transgender, in Sacramento, claimed she was attacked by two men. Torres said the guys shouted heckling her for being a transgender. Torres claimed there were bystanders around but none came to help her.

Torres said she reached into her handbag for her pepper spray and cellphone to call for help.Then she dropped her purse and her attackers picked up the money that fell. Ten one man broke a beer bottle and threatened to hurt Torres. He wanted to get at the money. Later, both attackers ran away from the scene. Police said they will investigate.

Torres appealed for understanding. She said it was very difficult to be in her situation as a transgender. Torres said she felt she was a victim of a hate crime.
