Neil Aspinall, 65, the former financial consultant for the Beatles, is very ill. He has lung cancer and has flown to NY’s Manhattan’s prestigious Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre. He seeks treatment there. Sir Paul McCartney has traveled to visit him.

Neil used to double up as a backup musician and vocalist for the Beatles whenever there was an urgent need for him to do so. For those times, Paul was very grateful for his help and friendship. Neil was often referred to as the fifth Beatle for all his contributions to the band.
