Bobby Ray Sims, 53, has been convicted of the killing of Vernon Florence and Teresa Florence on July 15, 2007. On Monday, May 4, Sims was sentenced to life in prison without parole. The judge took up the recommendation of the jury to sentence Sims to life.

Bobby Ray Sims and the Florences knew one another and were friends before their relationship soured. One month before the fatal shootings, Sims was harassing the Florences.

On July 15, 2007, Sims visited the Florence couple and he brought his shotgun. Vernon Florence’s friend, Lucas Shubert , was visiting them but he fled when he saw Sims with the weapon. Shubert helped to identify Sims from a police photo lineup.
