Bethany Hamilton was 13 years old when she had a shark attack in Hawaii. Hamilton was a surfer who lost her left arm to a shark attack. Hamilton was at the beach on October 31, 2003, when a tiger shark attacked her.

Hamilton underwent emergency surgery for her arm. Despite a heavy loss of blood, Hamilton survived her shark attack. After 3 weeks, Hamilton decided to return to surfing. Hamilton proved she could manage to surf with one arm. Not only that, Bethany Hamilton returned to competitive surfing and did better than before she lost her arm to the shark.

Bethany Hamilton’s story has been documented in TV shows, magazines and a book. Hamilton was born on February 8, in 1990 and she is now 19.

Bethany Hamilton once competed in the TV show, “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader”. Ms Hamilton did not win the first prize but she took home $25,000.
