By Clarencia Cynrae on July 7th, 2009Bernice King and her brother Martin Luther King III were present at the Michael Jackson funeral memorial at Staples Center, on July 7, 2009.
Martin Luther King’s wife, Coretta Scott King, was ill at one time and Michael Jackson called her up by telephone. Bernice King recalled how Jackson was concerned about her mother. Bernice said her mother’s speech was disabled due to a stroke but she listened to Jackson on the telephone.
Bernice King shared her story on how Jackson encouraged her mother by telling her he prayed for her recovery every day. Jackson asked about the type of music being played in Mrs King’s room. Jackson believed music could play a role in healing.
This was what Bernice King had to say about Michael Jackson:
“That day, Michael Jackson made our mother’s face smile in spite of her condition. What an unforgettable moment. He was such a thoughtful and selfless man, full of the unconditional love of God and good works that touch and change lives.”
