Avril Lavigne’s August 29 show in Malaysia cancelled
By Clarencia Cynrae on August 20th, 2008Avril Lavigne’s planned concert in Malaysia was cancelled by the Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry. The Ministry said Avril Lavigne’s show was unsuitable to Malaysian culture and the date on August 29 was too close to Malaysia’s Independence Day on August 31.
The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, an opposition party, suggested that Avril Lavigne’s concert should be cancelled. The Party said Lavigne’s show was too sexy and would promote the wrong values before Independence Day. The show’s promoter, Galaxy Group, should suggest another date for Avril Lavigne’s concert.
Malaysia’s rules required performers to wear clothes without obscene or drug-related images.Male and female performers should be covered from the chest to the knees. Performers must refrain from jumping, shouting, hugging and kissing on stage.
