August Provost: August Provost murder case (photo)
August Provost’s relative, Rose Roy, said she believed Provost was targeted because of his race and sexual orientation. Provost was an African-American and he was bisexual. Provost was on guard duty on Tuesday, 11:30 pm, June 30. When his replacement came at 3:30 am, on Wednesday, July 1, he discovered Provost’s body. A fire was also attempted to cover up the killing of Provost.
In 2008, August Provost had told his family and relatives that he was being harassed because of his race and sexual orientation. His aunt Rose Roy advised him to speak to his superior on that matter.
The Navy said that there was no indication that the murder of August Provost was a hate crime. The investigation is ongoing.
Capt. Matt Brown, of the Navy, said that the murder would have happened regardless of whoever might have been on duty at that particular post. Brown did not elaborate on that.
