Arun Jadhav Mumbai police survivor: Mumbai terrorists shot Arun Jadhav
By Therese Lisieux on November 30th, 2008Police constable Arun Jadhav survived the shooting by the pair of terrorists when they hijacked his police van in Mumbai on Wed. night, Nov. 26, 2008. Arun Jadhav was hit by 3 bullets but he was still alive. Arun Jadhav and his colleague were injured in the back seat of the police van.
The gunmen assumed they were dead in the back seat while they drove off. Arun Jadhav’s other colleague had a cell phone in his pocket and it rang. The terrorist in the front seat turned around and fired at the body. Arun Jadhav said his colleague may have died with this second round of bullets.
One of these two terrorists was later captured alive. He identified himself as Azam Amir Kasav, from Pakistan.
Arun Jadhav was traveling with the terrorists for about 10 minutes when one of the tires went flat. The two gunmen abandoned the police van and stopped a car. Thye pulled out the driver and took off in the car. Arun Jadhav moved from the back of the van to the front and used the radio to call for backup. Jadhav told the police station about the gunmen’s general direction.
A team of law enforcement blocked the road and opened fire at the hijacked car. One terrorist was killed and the other had a hand injury. This man was Azam Amir Kasav. Kasav played dead when he was surrounded by police.
However, while the bodies of the 2 gunmen were being transported to the hospital, some police men noticed that Kasav was still breathing and they restrained him. Kasav suffered a bullet in his hand which was why he was unable to lift his gun to fire and he decided to play dead and wait for his chance to escape.
Arun Jadhav said when his hand was shot, he was unable to lift his gun. Jadhav regretted this as he was unable to shoot the terrorists who then fired into the crowd and threw a grenade at a public place.
There is a photo of Arun Jadhav recovering at the hospital at the link.
