Anthony Abbate & Karolina Obrycka: Abbate convicted of battering Obrycka (photo)
By Clarencia Cynrae on June 2nd, 2009Anthony Abbate, a police officer with the Chicago force, was convicted of aggravated battery. Abbate assaulted Karolina Obrycka, a bartender, at her work station in a bar in Feb 2007.
Abbate claimed he acted in self defense. The judge rejected his claim. Abbate will be sentenced on June23.
Abbate’s battery was caught on video and shown. Abbate said he was drunk at that time but claimed Obrycka started the fight first as she had pushed him to remove him from behind her bar counter. Abbate claimed he had to defend himself from getting another injury.
Abbate has been suspended from work. Chicago police did not pay his salary during Abbates’ suspension.
