Anne Hathaway’s scandal referred to the time Hathaway and Raffaello Follieri were a couple. Follieri was accused of being involved in donation fraud, scams and tax evasion. It was a scandal Anne Hathaway was also implicated in because she was Follieri’s girlfriend. Hathaway was seen as a receiver or sharer of ill gotten gains.

There were rumors about Follieri’s business deals. Anne Hathaway knew about them and for a short time, she stood by Follieri, claiming he was innocent of all accusations. The public were expectant of Hathaway breaking up with Follieri so she did the opposite. However, when FBI was involved in the investigations, Hathaway could no longer close her eyes and pretend all was right. One day, FBI raided Follieri’s rented apartment and removed personal items of Follieri’s and Hathaway’s.

Anne Hathaway’s personal diaries were supposedly removed. Anne Hathaway’s personal photos which showed the actress in sexy, racy and naked pictures were supposedly confisicated. The naked pictures of Anne Hathaway would have caused a scandal if they were published. It was unclear why the FBI needed to remove Anne Hathaway’s nude photos. Naked pictures of Anne Hathaway were supposed to aid the federal authorities in their investigation of Raffaello Follieri. The fact that they were removed was another scandal. FBI has not charged Hathaway nor indicated that she was involved in Raffaello Follieri’s business matters.

Hathaway’s involvement in the money scandal was suspected. Hathaway had denied any knowledge of Follieri’s shady business practices. Hathaway’s scandal had begun and she had to deny being Follieri’s accomplice. In fact, Hathaway came out to say either in interviews or gossip that she had to pay rental for the apartment she shared with Follieri. Hathaway tried to distance herself from scandal because the bad publicity affected her as she failed to get good roles. Some time before the FBI raid, Hathaway claimed she had moved away from Follieri’s home. But Hathaway forgot to explain why her personal items were still in his apartment.

When Raffaello Follieri was arrested and jailed as he failed to post bail, it was known that he tried to contact Hathaway. He would not let distance make Hathaway forget him. It grew so bad that Hathaway had to tell people around her that she changed her telephone numbers to avoid Follieri calling her from jail. Thereafter, Hathaway kept silent on the topic of Follieri. She would discuss the aftermath and how she coped with moving on. Hathaway tried to refocus the talk on the scandal to her work. She talked about her new movie and her immersion in work to forget Follieri. This is the part where Anne Hathaway did her own post-scandal therapy.
