Richard Jeni committed suicide by a self inflicted gunshot wound. Jeni, aka Richard John Colangelo, was hospitalized 3 months before he killed himself. Jeni was on a suicide watch.

Jeni’s girlfriend, Amy Hasten, said that a week before the comedian’s death, she saw him talking to himself. Hasten said Jeni suffered stress, insomnia, paranoia and high blood pressure. Hasten said Jeni’s hard work and schedule caused the problems. Jeni had a past history of schizophrenia and he took the antidepressant Remeron.
