Tom Gabel, a punk rock singer, is changing his sex. Tom Gabel said he has gender dysphoria. He has suffered from confusion over his gender orientation and felt disconnected from his male body.
After he becomes a woman, Gabel will change his name to Laura Jane Grace.
Tom Gabel is married to a woman. The couple has a daughter, now 2 years old. Gabel said he will remain married to his wife. Gabel, the lead singer of the punk rock band Against Me, said he will start hormones therapy, electrolysis. Later on, he may consider gender reassignment surgery. Presently, he said he was not attracted to men.
Against Me is going on a road tour, to promote their music.The band is accompanying The Cult, another band, in the national road tour, beginning later in May 2012. The timing of the announcement is bound to draw interest in Tom Gabel, and the tour.
