Adam Leon: Adam Leon stole Cessna 172 (photos/ videos)

By Therese Lisieux on April 7th, 2009

Adam Leon, 31, allegedly stole a Cessna 172 from his flight school in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Leon flew over 3 States before he landed the Cessna in Ellsinore, southern Missouri.

Leon flew 783 miles, sometimes flying between 14,000 to 3000 feet. The Wisconsin National Guard sent two F-16s to try to get Leon to talk to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controllers. Leon saw the planes but refused to communicate.

Madison, of  Wisconsin, was evacuated for about half an hour, as a precaution.

Adam Leon landed the plane and went into a hardware store to buy a soft drink. Law enforcement officers found him waiting at the store.

Updated April 8.

A Missouri state trooper said Adam Leon told him he wanted to commit suicide by having one of the US fighter jets shoot him down. Leon allegedly said he could not kill himself by other ways so he thought of flying into and violating US airspace.
