By Therese Lisieux on November 14th, 2008

Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet Al-Megrahi, jailed in 2001 over the 1988 Lockerbie bombing which killed 270 people, has terminal cancer. The lawyers for Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet Al-Megrahi, 56, applied to have him released on bail on compassionate grounds because of his fatal cancer. A court in Scotland has rejected his appeal. The court said Al-Megrahi could seek treatment while in prison.

Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet Al-Megrahi, a former Libyan intelligence officer, was accused of blowing up a Pan Am flight 103 from London to New York on the night of December 21, 1988. Al-Megrahi is fighting to overturn his conviction.
